NCC girl cadets learn leadership skills

The ten-day annual training camp for the NCC cadets from various colleges across Goa concluded recently at Mapusa’s Peddem Sports Complex in Mapusa with a session on leadership skills and personality development by Vividh Pawaskar, head of the department of English at Mallikarjun College Canacona wherein 240 cadets from schools and colleges across Goa were trained in leadership development skills.  

The sessions conducted by various experts in different walks of life focused on providing glimpses to military training and personality development. “During the camp the cadets were engaged in drill, weapon training, map reading, field craft, battle craft and yoga besides personality development sessions by experts in the field,” states Commandant Col Sukhaman Singh, commanding officer, 1 Goa Girls Bn NCC who inaugurated this 10-day camp on day one.

The girl cadets came from various colleges across Goa – St Xaviers’ College Mapusa, Government College, Sanquelim, Government College, Quepem, Dhempe College, Miramar, MES College, Vasco and Mallikarjun College, Canacona. They were exhibited firefighting skills by Mapusa Fire Brigade staff. Health and hygiene aspects were covered by the medical officers. The cadets put in exemplary performance during weapon firing and participated in various competitions. These competitions included guard of honour, drill, map reading, cross country run and performing and presenting cultural programmes. The students, apart from learning how adventurous camp life is, were imbibing with the qualities like discipline, secular values and character building.
