Facing the brunt over the continuous littering and dumping of garbage along the roadsides, especially the stretch bordering Cavelossim, Carmona village panchayat has decided to form a flying squad to tackle the menace.

At a meeting held on Monday, the villagers decided to form a flying squad consisting of villagers to tackle and check the garbage dumping on the roadside especially from Jangod to Gavona, besides other areas.

Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said the flying squad will visit and inspect garbage dumped and check for evidence, warning that based on the inquiries, the violators will be heavily fined even if they are from the same village.

The Sarpanch further warned that if any tenant refuses to pay the fine then the owner will be fined in his place, adding that the flying squad will also check for black spots or any migrants violating the rules and discipline of the village in garbage management.

He pointed out that the Carmona village panchayat collects about 1200 kilogram of dry waste every week with sorting being carried out at the temporary MRF site.

“The village is suffering as tenants and migrants staying in the village and in the neighbouring village of Cavelossim are mostly responsible for garbage dumping on the roads,” Jorge said, while saying that the panchayat will also put up CCTVs all along the roads to keep in check those dumping waste.
