Dalai Lama arrives on two-day visit

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was accorded a traditional welcome by a large number of followers on his arrival at Dabolim Airport on Tuesday afternoon, as part of his two-day visit in the State.  

The Dalai Lama was welcomed by Minister for Protocol and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho along with Airport Director Gagan Malik and other dignitaries.  

The Dalai Lama is in Goa to give a talk organised by Goa University on ‘The Relevance of Ancient Nalanda Teachings in Modern Times’ at Kala Academy on Wednesday.   

Sources said the nobel laureate will later attend a series of events in Mundgod-Karnataka from December 14-22.  

A huge crowd of followers from different parts of the State had gathered to have a glimpse of the Dalai Lama upon his arrival at Dabolim airport.  

A huge police force was seen at Dabolim Airport as a part of security offered to the Dalai Lama. A strong police force was seen monitoring security arrangements while traffic officials were seen clearing vehicles at the airport.   

As news spread that the Dalai Lama had landed in Dabolim Airport, the excitement among his followers was palpable.   

When the Dalai Lama stepped out of the airport amid tight security, a lot of followers became emotional at the glimpse of their leader.   

The Dalai Lama was given a traditional welcome by the followers, as police tried to control the crowd. The Dalai Lama later left for Panaji.  

Speaking to reporters, on the occasion, Godinho said the Dalai Lama was in Goa for a function organised by Goa University.
