While the Navy remains tight-lipped over the cause of the crash of its fighter jet MiG29k on Saturday at Verna plateau, highly placed sources have said that the Navy has collected almost all the pieces of the wreckage from the site of the plane crash .

The source said that the Navy was not willing to talk on the subject -- either the cause of the crash or the inquiry which is reported to have been ordered by the navy soon after the plane hit the ground, reportedly after a bird-hit.

The air crash site comes under the jurisdiction of Verna police jurisdiction. Since the incident could be taken as an accident, Verna Police has conducted a panchanama at the site where wreckage of the plane lay scattered. They have also recorded statements of people who saw the plane crashing down in flames. “The Verna police is also planning to record the statements of the pilots who ejected safely from the plunging plane,” said the source.

Meanwhile, the wreckage of the plane is scattered over a vast area and most of it has been collected and taken custody by the Navy. A few heavy pieces that still lie at the site of the crash will be collected shortly by the Navy. The police have cordoned off the area and also kept security at the site to safeguard the pieces of the wreckage,” said the source.
