A glimpse at life through books

Konkani poet and writer Nayana Adarkar’s two books – Batmogri and Kantekuwar, published by Mitra Samaj Prakashan saw the light of the day on October 12 in an informal ceremony at the Fomento Media office in the presence of Damodar Ghanekar, editor, Bhaangarbhuim and Sanjay Dhavalikar, editor, Goan Varta. Both the books are based on the day to day experiences that a person, especially women, have to face. Adding some wit to the daily grinds,  Batmogri is based on humorous moments in life.  

The writer has been working as a journalist for the past 15 years, first in Konkani daily ‘Sunaparant’ and currently Adarkar is with Bhaangarbhuim, a Konkani daily of Fomento Media. She has three books of poetry to her credit – ‘Pratima’, ‘Mansanvar’, ‘Kisraa’ and a story book ‘Spandan’. Her literary essays, ‘Povana’ and ‘Chafo’ are well received by the readers. Her contribution to children’s literature is in the form of 16 children’s books.   

Her writing has been included in the syllabus of Maharashtra Higher Secondary Board as well as Goa Higher Secondary Board as well as Goa University syllabus.  

Adarkar has been conferred with awards and recognitions in various literary organisations. She received Goa government’s Yashodamini Puraskar and Kerala Prachar Sabha’s Saraswatibai Sahitya Puraskar. She also bagged Konkani Akademi’s Sahitya Puraskar and Konkani Bhasha Mandal’s Sahitya Puraskar. Adarkar is the recipient of the prestigious Dr T M Pai Foundation Prashasti puraskar too. She also received Bal Sahitya Puraskar from Curchorem Sahitya Kendra and Bal Sahitya Puraskar from Bimb Prakashan, Goa.
