Incidentally, Cabral is the only BJP MLA in the southern region, which comprises five constituencies, with Congress MLAs in Canacona and Quepem, the MGP in Sanvordem and an independent in Sanguem.
Speaking to The Goan, Curchorem BJP Mandal President Ashok Naik said Cabral should be given a ministerial berth, but admitted that competition for the berths would prevail among the BJP MLAs.
“Only time will tell who will get the remaining berths,”
he said.
Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) Chairperson Sushant Naik said the Curchorem MLA won for the second time and had won by the highest margin among the BJP MLAs.
“He has carried out various development works in Curchorem constituency and has earned the right of being elevated as a minister,”
said Naik.
Goa BJP Yuva Morcha vice-president Omkar
Vasta also voiced similar sentiments.
“We want Nilesh Cabral to be minister this tenure because he won for the second time with a huge margin.”
“If Cabral becomes minister, then various works of the people will be completed not only from Curchorem, but also from neighbouring constituencies, as there is no BJP MLA from the entire southern region consisting of five constituencies,” said Vasta.
Despite repeated attempts, Cabral did not respond to calls for comments in the matter.
