The Directorate of Education has plans to promote research opportunities in Goa and offer training to all – students and faculty members in getting trained to work on scientific projects and select good students from colleges to be mentored by National Institute of Technology Goa.

Institutes like NIO will open a dedicated cell for research, innovation and development in all colleges to give platform to faculty members and students to do research. Announcing these at the concluding function of Kalpak: Investigate, Invent, Innovate at Old Secretariat in Panaji, Director of Education in Goa, Prasad Lolayekar, lauded the students from various colleges for participating in this three-day event that exhibited projects and posters on innovative scientific and technological projects.

Nila Mohanan, secretary, directorate of Higher Education who was present as the chief guest and who gave away the prizes, extended her department’s support to organise more such events that bring students out of four walls and allow them to communicate among each other and to the public to bridge the gap between what is taught and what is actually understood, learnt and taken away. “Innovation is about new ideas. Goa is a nesting ground to new ideas. There are national institutes of excellence in the State which the students can make best use of. Masterminds will get the chance to hone their skills through these premier centres and by approaching their directors. Set up a spark in your mind and get ignited,” stated Mohanan.

The three-day Kalpak displayed 16 posters, 26 projects, 15 invited projects along with three enlightening talks by eminent personalities like Prof Vinod Saxena, Dr Debasis Patnaik and Dr Vithal Tilvi concluded on February 28 in the capital city.   Gopal Sawant was felicitated for creating statues of scientists at the exhibition.
