The Ambassador of the European Union to India Ugo Astuto, alongwith Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant launched the strategy for ‘Fostering Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy in Goa’, making Goa a pioneering state to prepare such strategy.
The strategy presents an overall state-level action plan to mainstream resource efficiency and circular economy and foster sustainable management of resources in the state.
The function was organized by Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation (DPSE) in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and with support from European Union’s Resource Efficiency Initiative (EU-REI) at Panaji on Friday.
Director, Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation (DPSE), Dr Y Durga Prasad and Counselor, Environment, Energy & Climate Change, European Union Delegation to India,Henriette Faergemann were present on the occasion.
Sawant expressed his gratitude to Niti Aayog for encouraging the State of Goa to formulate the State strategy on Resource Efficiency (RE) and Circular Economy (CE) and congratulated the Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation, Government of Goa for steering the development of this Strategy.
Talking about the collaboration, the EU Ambassador said, “We are extremely delighted to have been supporting the state of Goa in preparation of the Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy Strategy.” The strategy has been prepared by Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation (DPSE), Government of Goa and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) was assigned to help them develop this strategy with support from the EU-Resource Efficiency Initiative (EU-REI).
The strategy presents a resource efficiency road map for tourism and construction along with addressing the issue of marine litter.
The strategy recognises the emergent need to use resources judiciously across the lifecycle in order to sustain Goa’s long-term development and societal well being.
Stakeholder groups from Goa who participated in the focused group discussions for the strategy paper were tourism, construction, civil society, waste, marine and business and other sectors.
