Kedar Naik has been elected unopposed as the new sarpanch of Reis Magos panchayat.
The post of Sarpanch had fallen vacant after former sarpanch Virendra Shirodkar submitted his resignation on February 5 citing personal reasons.
The Mapusa Block Development Officer had convened a special meeting in the panchayat office on Thursday to elect new a sarpanch.
The candidature of Kedar Naik was proposed by panch Felicio Rodrigues and seconded by panch Sheilendra Parulekar. Since there was only one application, Naik was declared as elected unopposed by the BDO extension officer Manohar Parwar, who conducted the election proceedings with the assistance of Panchayat Secretary Premanand Mandrekar.
Later speaking to reporters, newly elected Sarpanch Kedar Naik said the residents of Reis Magos have been facing acute water shortage and erratic power supply.
“My priority will be to address these problems first. Later, I will concentrate on improving infrastructure such as roads, gardens, etc in the village,” said Naik.
