Woman found dead in Porvorim, second accused absconding

Porvorim police has nabbed a juvenile migrant and is on the hunt for the second accused in connection with the rape and murder of a 28-year-old Odisha woman at Porvorim.  

According to Porvorim police, the woman’s partially decomposed body had been found lying in the bushes near the Kadamba Bus depot at Paithona in Salvador do Mundo on February 10.  

After conducting the panchanama, police sent the body for an autopsy to the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim. The panel of doctors conducting the post-mortem on Wednesday stated in their report that the cause of death is “asphyxia as a result of smothering by blunt surface or object which was ante-mortem and fatal in a female with ante-mortem injuries over genitalia.”  

Later, several teams from the Porvorim police station were deputed in different locations to identify the deceased.   

On Thursday, the deceased was identified by a 35-year-old mason from Odisha and presently residing at Paithona. Acting on his complaint, an offence was registered by the Porvorim Police.   

During investigations, the involvement of two persons in the crime was revealed. 

One accused involved in the crime is a 16-year-old boy who has been nabbed by the police, while the second accused has been identified but has been absconding and efforts to trace him are in progress.  

An offence under Sections 376-D, 302, 201 r/w 34 IPC has been registered and Police Inspector Neenad Deulkar is investigating the case under the guidance of DySP Edwin Colaco.
