Kare law college to sign cooperation contracts with Portugal University

Vidya Vikas Mandal’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao is signing two cooperation agreements with the prestigious Coimbra University in Portugal and exchanging them at a function to be held on February 15 in the presence of Portuguese president, Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, during his forthcoming Goa visit.  

Established in 1290, Coimbra University is the oldest University in Portugal and fifth oldest in Europe and is one of the few UNESCO heritage site universities in the world. It is the alma mater to several judges, doctors and professors from Goa who travelled to Portugal for education over the last few centuries.  

One agreement is to establish academic, scientific and cultural cooperation in the field of law by establishing a curricular unit of Portuguese Civil Law at Kare Law College, with additional curricular focus on the scientific fields of criminal law, penology, human rights of vulnerable groups, anti-human trafficking and child abduction; Intellectual Property Rights; artificial intelligence and international law. The other is in the framework of Portuguese language and culture.  

The primary aims of both agreements are students’ exchange; teaching and academic higher level staff exchange; joint participation in seminars, colloquia, conferences, congresses and other academic events; joint research activities; cultural exchange activities; joint participation in international courses; and related activities of mutual interest.  

The signatory of the University of Coimbra is Prof. João Nuno Calvão da Silva, Vice-Rector for External Relations and alumni, University of Coimbra and for Kare Law College is Dr Saba da Silva, principal of Law College.
