Goa openers Sumiran Amonkar and Vaibhav Govekar struck daddy hundreds to put hosts Goa firmly in the driver’s against Arunachal Pradesh at stumps on day 1 in their Round VII Plate Group Ranji Trophy fixture at the GCA academy ground in Porvorim on Monday.

Put in to bat, Goa made the visitors rue their decision to bowl first as a gritty Amonkar and an attacking Govekar flayed the listless Arunachal attack into smithereens.

Govekar celebrated his return to the playing XI in style with a belligerent 160 (210b, 15x4, 1x6). He was the first to depart only after putting on a mammoth 316-run opening wicket partnership. His opening partner Amonkar was next to go with an addition of another 36 runs to the total and after compiling a well-constructed 160 (268b, 17x4, 1x6).

Goa went to close of play on the opening day in a commanding position at 376/2 in 90 overs. Wicketkeeper S K Patel was on 32 (42b, 5x4) and captain Amit Verma on 14 (20b, 1x6).

Techi Neri and Shashwat Kohli picked up a wicket each for Arunachal.
