In a third incident of it’s type, a Maruti Ertiga car plying between Cortalim and Verna was damaged after construction material fell on it on Saturday evening

According to sources, the incident occurred at around 5.30 pm near the Cortalim junction area and a  traffic jam was reported around the Cortalim circle and Margao Vasco road after the incident.

A photo of a rod entering the windshield of the car also went viral on social media.

However in a lucky escape, there were no loss of life or injuries reported as far as the occupants of the car were concerned.

Other details regarding the number of occupants in the car during the incident and owner details of the car were not available.

Sources said that after the traffic jam, the police also rushed to the site and there was some heated argument between the owner of the car and the supervisor of the ongoing works of the new Zuari bridge.

“It was lucky that no one was injured. The contractor however assured the owner to pay for all the damages to the car and the car was later cleared. Though the police were present, the owner did not register a police complaint. The traffic also started moving smoothly after the car was cleared from the road,” said the source.

When contacted, Verna Police said they were unaware of the incident.

This is the third incident of its kind around the construction site.

In two earlier incidents, iron rods had fallen through the windshields of a Maruti Alto and a Maruti Swift. In both earlier incidents as well, no loss of life or injuries were reported.

The incident has raised concerns amongst motorists over the safety of the movement of vehicles along the road while the works of the new Zuari bridge are being undertaken.
