An alleged attempt to woo and kidnap school students was thwarted by an alert sister-brother duo and their gutsy tuition teacher later managed to stop two men who came in a rent-a-car and handed them over to police.

Mapusa Police arrested both accused, Bisbajit Pande (28) from Odisha and Shani Rajbar (24) from Uttar Pradesh, who have been presently residing at Tivim.

The incident happened opposite the St Ann’s High School, Tivim at around 5.15 pm when the first batch of students had finished their tuition classes.

Police informed that the accused allegedly attempted to pull a Class 5 student, who was walking on the road after tuition classes, but his alert sister who studies in Class 8, pulled his hand and both

immediately boarded a bus heading to their destination.

The other students who witnessed the incident immediately reported the matter to their tuition teacher, Ruhi Sinari.

Speaking to The Goan, Sinari said the moment she got the information she came out on the road and began to look out for the car as the students had noted the car number.

“At around 5.35 pm, the car emerged again and I immediately stood in the middle of the road and stopped the car,” Sinari said.

She said when questioned, one of the accused told her that he worked as an officer in SBI but immediately changed his version and later both began lying.

She said soon a large crowd of locals gathered around and some of them even beat up the two accused.

“We found a hammer, a hacksaw blade and some other items in their bag which was kept in the back seat of the car,” Sinari said.

Both the accused were handed over to police at around 7 pm by the locals who initially refused to release them unless they knew the owner of the house who kept them.

Angry locals slammed the police for failing to carry out proper tenant verification which resulted in such incidents.

They also demanded that the owner of the house who allowed the accused duo to reside should also be booked in the case.

Police have registered an offence against the accused under Section 363 (kidnapping) and 511 of the IPC and Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act.

Police have also attached the rent-a-car (GA-03-W-5454) which was used in the crime and PSI Vibha Volvoikar is investigating the case.
