Migration is a world wide phenomenon and people migrating are alwayson the receiving end. Migrants moving to another land for better prospects is the need of the times but shouldn’t the migrants adhere to the law of the new land? What happens when these migrants form a mafia and indulge in antisocial activities conniving with the authorities of the land? What is the outcome when Goans expats return to their native land to find it in possession of the migrants by fraudulent means? John D’Silva’s latest release Aponn is a wake up call for all Goans with respect to the influx of migrants.

Script:

The script is simple and slow paced. But the sequences of events or rather the ingredients included in the storyline are so real that the audience in curious to know what happens next. The script of the performance is in the non stop drama format. The comedy has no bearing on the main plot even though the comedy characters interact with the main story characters. John should learn the art of incorporating comedy in the main story for the form of tiatr is different from the non stop dramas that are being presented in the name of tiatr.

Comedy :

The comedy has no resemblance or connection to the main story line. The comedy is simple decent but derieves great laughter. The play of words, the facial expression and natural acting all contribute to great comedy. Tiatrists indulging in vulgarity should learn a lesson or two from these comedians on how to just play with words and derive laughter. However some of the jokes were old.

Sets :

The sets are suggestive of the family background but again there was no furniture to match the sets erected. The curtains were nicely used and so also the sets. If some decent furniture is used in the tiatrs it will really enhance the beauty of the visuals

Acting :

The tiatr has a good bunch of artistes dedicated to the art and together they dish out great performance as a team. The advantage of working together over a considerate time is truly advantageous. Peter de Pedda  and Aloma give a great performance but Ivan steals the honours with his great acting skills and carries the tiatr on his shoulders with ease. Milagres the Ganapoga gives another stellar performance. Aniceto Lourenco as the police inspector is very natural and looks a good inspector with his physique and built. Soccoro de Santa Cruz is the migrant kingpin and his language is flowing and natural. In the comedy section John D’Silva proves why he is called the emperor of comedy. Kenny follows his master closely with his natural flair. But the darling of the audience was surely Meena Goes. Her natural acting, flair for comedy coupled with excellent timing and effective dialogue delivery was a treat to watch.

Music/songs:

The band led by Cristo Rodrigues provided great music. It was great to see the two sisters Natasha on Saxophone and Twiggie on the Bass guitar giving impetus to the music. Movin on drums and Jose on the Keyboard too were effective. The opening chorus sung in style and class by Aniceto Lourenco and Socorro de Santa Cruz gives the performance a great start. Solos by Ivan, Aloma, Peter de Pedda, Milagres de Ganapoga, Anceto Lourenco and Socorro de Santa Cruz are worth the ticket price. There are also some good variety songs a duet by Peter and Aloma, Trio by Ivan Socorro and Aniceto, a quartet by Ivon Peter, Kenny and Meena all give the performance a great high.

Direction:

The direction is sleek and good. A good combined effort by the cast and technical side was visible. A good and decent entertainment is given by the director which is a treat to watch.
