The Congress on Monday alleged that Goa Forward Party President, Vijai Sardesai, who is ostensibly propagating a joint, non-BJP front to topple the Pramod Sawant-led government in Goa is actually behind the scenes playing the role of alerting Amit Shah of internal revolts in the BJP and bargaining for a cabinet berth for himself.

Congress spokesperson Trajano D’Mello said: “Sardesai is bargaining with BJP high command for cabinet berth by warning them of a possible coup within BJP government.”

Addressing a press conference, D’Mello said, a group of 15 ruling party MLAs are disgruntled and by announcing that the government will be toppled, Vijay has helped the BJP and is vying for a cabinet post.

He said, the Congress party cannot accept “traitors” and criticised Sardesai for failing to quit the NDA perhaps fearing action against him like P Chidambaram.

Sardesai, he said, never speaks of the BJP and Central government’s failures but targets Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who was okay when he himself was a minister in his cabinet.
