Russian dies in road mishap

A 35-year-old Russian died in a road mishap in Arpora on Sunday afternoon, Anjuna police informed.

The deceased Alexei Novoselor who was riding a motorcycle on reaching near Crazy Crab restaurant in Arpora first banged his bike on a parked Swift car and then on to a Thar Jeep due to which he sustained injuries.

He was first shifted to the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa, and later Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim where he was proclaimed brought dead.

Police registered an unnatural death under section 174 CrPC and requested the FRRO to inform the Russian embassy about the death. PSI Vidyesh Pilgaonkar is conducting further investigation.

ANOTHER NATIONAL DROWNS: A 64-year-old Russian tourist drowned at Arambol beach in North Goa district on Sunday.

Sipo Nicolas, the deceased, was suspected to have suffered a heart attack, said a spokesperson of Drishti Marine, a private lifeguard agency. Nicolas’ wife approached lifeguards on the beach around 5 pm, saying that her husband was missing.

A search was started, and Nicolas was found floating in an unconscious state in waist-deep water some distance away from the shore.

He was rushed to the Pernem Primary Health Centre but was declared dead on arrival, the spokesperson said.

His wife suspected that he had a heart attack, the spokesperson added. Local police were unable to provide any information about the death.

By one estimate, over one lakh tourists from Russia and surrounding countries visit Goa every year.
