Udupi youngster Handi, Delhi’s Koch win Goa River Marathon 2019

Sangamesh Handi, a 21-year-old runner from Udupi in Karnataka came first in the men’s full marathon ( 42 kms) of the 10th Goa River Marathon race held in Chicalim 

on Sunday.   

In extreme humid conditions, Handi clocked a time of 3:13:35 to win the first place, followed by Aman Mehla, a 20-year-old from Navi Mumbai who came second with a time of 3:16:52, while Michael Koch, an expatriate based in New Delhi came third in 3:30:21.   

In the women’s section, Sarah Koch, another New Delhi based expatriate won the women’s title with a time of 4:15:41, followed by the Jaipur based runner Pamela Bahel who came second with a time of 4:29:33 and Loretta Henderson from Alaska, USA who came in third with a time of 4:40:38.   

In the half marathon for men, Mahantesh Bingi won the event with a time of 1:24:50, while Vinaya Malusare of Pune came first with a time of 1:40:59 in the women’s category.   

Over 3,000 runners participated in the event, with at least 750 runners participating in the 5km run too.
