Transport Minis.ter Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday said the new concept of “One Nation, One Tag” for vehicles would be launched across the country from December.

Speaking to reporters on his arrival at Dabolim Airport after attending the ‘One Nation, One Tag’ meeting in New Delhi, Godinho said he would soon also convene a meeting with his department regarding implementation of the new scheme.

“The meeting was held in New Delhi on Monday with the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Minister of State for Road Transport and National Highways Retd General V K Singh, transport and PWD ministers of most states and senior officials.”

“The meeting showcased the ‘One Nation, One Tag’ concept, which will bring about a new system, wherein vehicles will not have to stop at toll booths to make any payments as they will be cleared electronically.”

“A sticker will be pasted on the front windscreen of the vehicle and cameras placed on top of the toll booth will take a photograph of this sticker and payments will be cleared automatically. There will be no wastage of time or fuel and people can benefit by moving quickly through the toll booths.”

“An amount will be credited into a card that is attached to the car like a prepaid card and all toll charges will be deducted automatically and as long as you have a balance in the account, you can move across any toll booth without waiting in queue,”   the minister said.

‘NHAI agrees to traffic circle, underpasses at Dabolim-Bogmalo junction’

VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday said the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has agreed to his request for a traffic circle along the Dabolim-Bogmalo junction and a flyover or an underpass at two locations of the
Dabolim-Bogmalo junction and NAD Junction.
“I had demanded at the meeting in New Delhi that the NHAI construct a traffic circle along the Dabolim-Bogmalo junction and a flyover or an underpass at two locations –  Dabolim-Bogmalo junction and NAD Junction in the long run.”
“The NHAI has agreed to my suggestions and a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) team will shortly inspect both sites and proposals will be taken up.”
“Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has always helped and considered Goa’s request by taking up mega projects like the third Mandovi Bridge, the New Zuari bridge.”
“The new Zuari bridge will have two lovely towers showcasing two restaurants above the river. I told him that Goa needs more help because Goa is a brand name by itself and a tourist destination wherein 15 lakh population welcomes 75 lakh tourists and with such high footfalls, infrastructure taken up in Goa is not only for locals and the country but also for visitors across the world who arrive in Goa.”
“I requested him to treat Goa differently and give us maximum assistance in providing good infrastructure,” said Godinho.
