Organizing the second edition of Karawachauth 2019, ‘Mehendi Shagun Ki’ on October 17 in Margao, Rekha Gupta and Geetika Gupta of ‘Rekhas House of Cottons’ have invited those who observe this North Indian festival and also those who wish to witness the celebration to Hotel Grace Majestic at Fatorda.“The event will be held between 1 pm to 4 pm, as it will keep us engaged in various activities and make us forget that we all are fasting,” shares Geetika Gupta, the co-organiser of the Karwachauth 2019. However, she adds in the same breath, that there will be snacks arranged for those who are not fasting and have come to witness or participate in the celebration.

“The event will have ramp walk, games, dance performances, housie, guest of honour, competitions, quizzes, spot prizes, surprises and gifts as well as snacks for those who are not fasting. For us, the Karwachauth fasting begins early morning with sunrise and is observed past sunset, ending with moonrise. The programme will be concluded by Katha.”

The first edition of Karwachauth was organized last year at Colva and around 60 women participated in it making it a huge success. Motivated by the success, this year too, the Guptas have taken initiative to organize it, this time in Fatorda. The last year’s Mrs Karwachauth crown was bagged by Anupama Chaturvedi while Neha Sinha and Rupa Tana were first and second runner ups. Stating the reason for such an organization, Geetika explains that the North Indians living in Goa miss this festival that’s being celebrated on a grand scale in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and some parts of Rajasthan. “It is for those who feel homesick, that we are organizing this one-day event which also offers a glimpse of our culture to Goan community who is curious to know more about Karwachauth celebrations,” Geetika quips.
