Over a month after the conclusion of the monsoon session of the legislative Assembly, there appears to be no sign of the recruitment of 182 primary section teachers across Marathi medium schools in the State.

An official from the Directorate of Education told The Goan that there were procedures to be followed for the appointment letters and that letters “may go out in around a week’s time.” Further, the teachers will have to complete several formalities before officially starting work, thus making it seem unlikely that these 182 vacancies will be filled any time soon.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had given an assurance on the floor of the House, that the recruitment orders for these posts would be passed within the week following the conclusion of the Assembly session.

The recruitment process to fill up the 182 vacancies had been held months ago. In fact, the written test for the same had been held in November 2018 where 661 of over a thousand candidates had qualified for the next round. The list of these candidates was announced in March 2019. Following this, the candidates

had to submit a list of documents to the DoE, as the DoE had promised that only teachers with a DElEd would be chosen to fill these posts, and that candidates with higher qualifications (BEd) would be rejected. The process was then held up due to the Election Code of Conduct which was in force till May 23. Even after the code of conduct was lifted over three months ago, the candidates continue to remain in suspense over whether they have been selected or not.
