For the 16th successive day, residents of Alto-Santa Cruz, parts of Cabesa and Kenkre Estate in Santa Cruz village and Curca, Bambolim including GMC, Siridao, Paliem, Zuari-Goa Velha and other areas in St Andre constituency, continued to suffer with their taps running dry, as work to restore the ruptured water pipeline at Cujira continued till Friday night.

It was assured that the work would be completed on Friday and water would be released by morning, but it was not to be so as till Friday morning the workers were only able to remove the damaged part of the old pipeline.

A new MS pipeline of 9.6 metres was then readied and it was lowered only at 7 pm and fitted at one end. However, the alignment of this pipeline with the old pipeline was reached only at 7.50 pm after some difficulty.

After that, welding work to connect the new pipeline with the old pipeline at other end was started at around 8.30 pm.

Speaking to The Goan, a PWD official informed that after joining of the pipelines is achieved, it would be tested with water released at very low pressure and once everything is okay, the pressure would then be slowly increased.

“But today, only the water tank at GMC will be filled so that water supply to GMC is restored on an urgent basis,” the official said.

“Water supply to the other affected areas will be released only on Saturday morning.”

Meanwhile, Santa Cruz panchas Prasad Naik and Mariano Araujo were trying their level best to provide water to the affected locals of their respective wards. They were seen providing water to the affected villagers of their wards on Friday.
