VASCO: Claiming that dengue cases had been on the rise in and around the port town, former minsiter and NCP State president Jose Philip D’Souza appealed to health officials to take immediate remedial measures to prevent an outbreak of dengue.

Addressing a news conference in the city following the death of a Vasco youth due to suspected dengue, D’Souza said he had

personally checked the register of the sub district hospital in Chicalim for suspected dengue cases and said they have been on the rise. “This is the second death of a youth from suspected dengue within a short period of time. It is strange that only those who have lost a dear one feel the pain while the issues are not taken up by elected politicians. Every elected leader is quiet and people are also quiet even as people continue to fall victims to dengue. The youngster

who expired recently was admitted to SDH and was there for a few days. When his health worsened, he was sent to GMC and he

expired on the way. Elected MLAs are equally responsible for this as they have failed to recruit staff and run the facility and have proper maintenance.”

Stating that he had had a telephonic conversation with Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane on the issue, D’Souza urged health officials to

take immediate remedial measures to prevent an outbreak of dengue.
