The Power House at Aquem, which caters to the needs of power consumers from Salcete and down South, has finally got the much-awaited facelift, thanks to the Chief Electrical Engineer Reshma Mathews.

Not only has the imposing multi-storeyed building received a fresh coat of paint, but the renovation work has brought about a turnaround in the toilets and washrooms on all floors of the building. While the near four-decade-old building was painted in the past, this is perhaps the first time that the washrooms and toilets have been renovated in keeping pace with the changing times.

While the renovation of the toilet blocks itself cost the exchequer Rs 33.86 lakh, the department has spent Rs 14.13 lakh to replace the worn-out floor tiles of the staircase.

While work on providing cabins to the officials will cost around Rs 3.5 lakh, the department has now tendered work on replacement of floor tiles with vitrified ones in all offices at a cost of Rs 25.43 lakh.

The CEE said the painting of the Aquem Power House was long overdue, adding that the imposing building must have been painted after a gap of around two decades.

She, however, said that the toilets have been renovated for the first time to maintain cleanliness and sanitation.
