Additional Sessions Court in Mapusa has fixed September 23 for resumption of the trial of former Tehelka magazine editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal’s infamous 2013 case in which he is accused of sexually assaulting a junior colleague in one of Goa’s starred hotels.

Additional Sessions Judge, Vijaya Ambre, took up the case on Monday after a bench of the Supreme Court directed it to complete the trial in six months. But after Tejpal’s lawyer brought to the court’s notice a fresh application by his client in the Apex Court, Judge Ambre adjourned the proceedings to September 23.

The Supreme Court has also dismissed the plea of Tejpal to quash the rape charges which were framed against him by the Mapusa Court.

The Mapusa court had begun Tejpal’s trial in March last year but in-camera. The media was debarred from reporting developments in the trial which was then stayed by SC.
