Tempa pormonnem: Move with the times!

Times change and man should adapt to the changing times. We have one life to live and during that span, we live we have so much to give. At times we selflessly give but then what do we get in return? Ingratitude? Careless attitude? You give with love but then why doesn’t the receiver reciprocate with love in the same manner? Wouldn’t our world be a better place to live if we live a life with selfless love instead of the selfishness of the changing times? Roseferns, the King of Centuries make one ponder on these thoughts as you leave the auditorium watching the tiatr Tempa Pormonnem.

Script  

The script is simple and straight. The turns and twists are predictable. But in the simplicity of the script the writer does offer his philosophical thought that aims at building a home in a house. However the script is written in the non stop drama form, a form in which Roseferns as a writer was born and baptized too! The cantos are well composed and rendered too. The comedy has no link with the main storyline.

Comedy  

The comedy is just an assimilation of jokes without character building but clean and decent. Actually the sequence of comedy has no continuation too. It can at best be termed as criticizing comedy; at first criticizing the new writers instead of appreciating them and later attacking the ‘chosen ten’ for deserting their parent party and embracing another. When Agostinho was the chairman of Tiatr Academy in the wake of the slapgate controversy they had decided not to make any personal or professional attack on members of the tiatrist fraternity but in this tiatr Agostinho makes disrespectful comments against the new writers entering the industry which puts tiatr and tiatrist in bad light. The tiatr features many comedians however the comedy has been set mainly on Agostinho and Selvy and in the bargain Nato and Dorothy were left without much activity on stage.

Sets

There is nothing specific of the sets erected for the staging of the performance. But clever play has been put into effect by changing the appearance of the sets for different scenes by just changing the positioning of some key files. Other directors should emulate this example in their productions. The comedy is enacted on the road and garden curtains. The modern or even old house sets had no decent seating provisions which revealed the bankruptcy of the stage settings.  

Acting

The tiatr features a great set of actors Roseferns carries the tiatr on his shoulders. It is great to see Roseferns once again donning the responsibility of shouldering the lead role, his mannerisms stage movements and dialogue delivery had a lot of grace. Mario Menezes is great as a villain. It is good to see Mario in this avtar as he is stereotyped in his presentation of the character normally enacted. Antonette is the timid darling on stage who raises her performance in the good manner she carries herself. Cassiano Eddy too acts with responsibility. Annie is good with her delivery of dialogues but she should learn and if she cant learn should be taught the art of dressing on the stage as per the requirements of the character she plays and stop displaying her audacity to wear whatever she chooses to wear without thinking of the character she enacts. The comedians Agostinho and Selvy were natural  in their acts. However Nato and Dorothy should control their shouting. Comedy needs energy but shouting without reason does not make the comedian effective and energy providing. The new sensation Joylita, though part of the troupe was not having any role to play which was a disappointment.

Music/songs

The band led by Theo Alvares was punchy and raunchy. The tiatr starts with a great opening chorus sung in harmony in parts by Ageema and Joylita. It was a pity that Ageema did not appear to sing again in the tiatr. There are meaningful and interesting solos by Benny de Aldona, Joylita, Rosario de Benaulim, Saby de Diwar and Michael de Benaulim. A duet by Rosario and Annie and another one by Saby de Divar and his partner were also interesting. The background musical score too was effective.

Direction  

The direction was sleek and a good collaboration of the artistes and technical team was ensured. A good performance to watch.
