The Zonal Agricultural Officer (ZAO) Neelima Gawas along with field assistant Uday Tejam visited Sao Mathias and Goltim-Navelim villages in Divar on Tuesday, to assess the damage caused to the crops.
Accompanied by Sao Mathias sarpanch Sadanand Phadte, members of tenants associations and some farmers, the ZAO surveyed the areas where crops have been damaged due to the recent flooding. The areas included fields in Amboi, Torkhazan, Noikhazan,
etc.
On hearing of the news of the visit of the ZAO, several farmers gathered to register their names so that they could get compensation. However, the farmers were told to submit an application to the Agriculture Department’s office at Ella Farm, Old Goa along with the Krishi card and a photograph of the farmers with the damaged field in the background.
Later speaking to The Goan, ZAO Gawas informed that the affected farmers would get compensation for damage to crops under the Xetkari Aadhar Nidhi scheme of the State government and only farmers with Krishi cards are eligible for the same. “Currently, we are only conducting a survey of the areas where crops have been damaged. Once applications are received from the farmers, we will again visit the fields and do actual assessment of losses, after which compensation will be paid to the farmers,” Gawas said.
Gawas further informed that her team has already done surveys in Taleigao, Curca, Batim, Chorao, Corlim, Merces, Pilar, Neura, Goa Velha, Dongorim, and other areas in the past
three days.
