CDJ Ribandar rallied from behind to defeat Sarzora Sports Club 5-4 via tiebreaker to storm into the semifinals of All Goa 25th Our Lady of Merces inter village football tournament, organised by Sirlim Sports Club at Church ground, Chinchinim, on Tuesday.
The teams were tied 1-1 at full time. Heavy downpour throughout the day made the ground slippery and slushy and the teams had to use long balls to the game going. There were attacks few and far between but both sets of players were guilty of missing gilt-edged chances.
Sarzora Sports Club took the lead when Asten Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Post resumption, CDJ Ribandar put up an improved display and troubled the rival defence with a few raids. After many forays, Rohan Shirodkar managed to equalised through a stiff grounder. That was, however, the last goal in regulation time, leaving the score tied at 1-1.
ln the penalty shootout, Salu Santos, Rohan Shirodkar, Vikram Balekar and Deesmank Kuralkar found the net from the spot, while Astern Fernandes, Flanmy Carvalho and Jayram scored for Sarzora Sports Club.
