Sports Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar on Monday visited the Peddem swimming pool complex along with Nilkanth Halarnkar, Tivim MLA, Digamber Kamat, Margao MLA and President of Goa Swimming Association (GSA) and other officials.

Taking a note of a congratulatory motion which was moved in the State Legislative Assembly recognising the medal winning performances of the swimmers and divers since the last three years, the Sports Minister took the initiative to visit the pool complex at Peddem and did a review of the existing infrastructure at the venue. Ajgaonkar inspected the water quality and noticing the deteriorated condition of the pool, assured that all the repairs/upgradation work at the pool will be done without disturbing the workout schedule of the swimmers.

The swimmers and divers have four upcoming national championships lined up in the next five months, including Senior Nationals, Asian Age group Championship, School Nationals and Khelo India. Considering the fact that Panaji pool is closed for upgradation work for the forthcoming National Games, GSA officials impressed upon the Sports Minister not to allow SAG to close the pool at Peddem to ensure that the workouts of athletes are not disturbed.

Halarnkar, meanwhile, addressed the need for the gym facility to be kept well equipped and made available for the swimmers on a

regular basis.
