Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced in his budget speech that his government will set up a State-level clone of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s replacement for the erstwhile Planning Commission - NITI Ayog.
Sawant said the body will advise, aid and assist the government for “transforming Goa” and will function autonomously. “Bad administration, to be sure, can destroy good policy, but good administration can never save bad policy. Therefore, you require good policy as well as good administration to implement that policy,” Sawant said to back the decision to set up the State-level institution.
Speaking at the customary post-budget press conference in his chamber, Sawant said the body will be constituted within the current fiscal.
He said, it will assist, advise and guide the government in policy making and also formulation, implementation and monitoring sustainable development goals.
Formerly, before the Centre abolished the Planning Commission, Goa like other States had relied for the task on a ‘State Planning Board’ with the Chief Minister as its chairman.
Sawant said, the NITI Ayog-like body will replace the State Planning Board and will be formally constituted soon.
