Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) is all set to launch its new adventure tourism activity bungee jumping by end of August this year.

With successful operations of hot air balloons, white water rafting, scuba diving etc, Goa has become a premium adventure tourism destination. In the weeks to come bungee jumping will be added to the portfolio of adventure activities for tourists to avail of when in Goa.

After operating over 70,000 jumps since its inception in 2006 in Rishikesh, and earning recognition from the ministry of tourism, government of India for their international safety standards, Jumpin Heights, the Bungee People – has been selected to bring their magic to Goa.

Run by ex-army officers and with jump masters trained extensively under experts from New Zealand, Jumpin Heights adheres to Australia and New Zealand standards of safety for bungee operations and have revolutionised how safety in adventure sports is perceived in India. This August marks the beginning of the company’s second project, and Goa’s first Bungee site- in Mayem Lake, North Goa, the jump will be from a height of 55 mtrs and will be operational throughout the year, barring monsoons (mid-June to mid-August).

The jump platforms have been designed by a team from New Zealand and technically qualified jump masters, with years of experience of operating these sports in New Zealand and have successfully operated over 70,000 jumps. Service provider will ensure safety by making sure that they have a highly experienced crew, high level of training, good quality bungee jumping cords, the best equipment and procedures in place, as well as a number of checks and counter checks and very thorough inspection schedules.

Service provider will follow the Australian and New Zealand standards authority guidelines for commercial operations in bungee jumping and these standards have now been incorporated to form the Indian standards which did not exist before. With regards the safety, there were obviously no official regulations in place, since bungee had never been practiced on a formal scale before, and Jumpin Heights, based on the New Zealand safety standards, went on to formalise the regulations which are now taken to be the official safety standards for bungee jumping in India. The bungee jump in Goa would cost Rs 4110 including video (+GST).
