The State government has cleared the appointment of Narendra Sawaikar as NRI Commissioner and that of BJP general secretary Sadanand Tanavde as chairman of the State-owned lender Economic Development Corporation.

A third appointment of Mapusa MLA, Joshua D’Souza as vice-chairman of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation has also been cleared, government sources said.

Sawaikar, who recently lost the South Goa Lok Sabha seat narrowly to Francisco Sardinha of the Congress, is a senior leader of the BJP and was close to former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar for over two decades.

Tanavade, a former MLA, has been general secretary

of the party and was member of the BJP’s core committee which managed the party and state coalition affairs during the year-long illness of Parrikar.

The orders making these three political appointments are expected to be issued by the State administration either on Thursday or Friday, the sources added. The three appointments now leave Shiroda MLA Subhash Shirodkar as the lone member of the BJP’s legislature party who is to be accomodated with a position in government.

He was appointed chairman of the EDC soon after he quit the Congress and his membership of the House to switch allegiance to the saffron party but quit within a couple of months for undisclosed reasons months ahead of the Shiroda by-polls which he contested and narrowly won.
