Salcete politicos kept their date with the Sao Joao festivities in the countryside as they joined the revelers across the Taluka in celebrating the traditional festival.

If Salcete’s lone Minister, deputy Chief Minster Vijai Sardesai hopped from one ward to another in Fatorda constituency, Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao also kept a date with his constituents on Monday. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Chief Girish Chodankar along with spokesperson of Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) Dixon Vaz descended in Benaulim village at Pedda to partake in the celebrations.

Sao Joao festivities were organised across Fatorda constituency with organisers arranging rain dance as an added attraction to the festivities. Sardesai with wife Usha and Bollywood producer Xavier Marques joined the Sao Joao festivities at Mungul in Fatorda around noon. The deputy Chief Minister hopped from one ward to another to join in the celebrations arranged by various groups.

He told the media that Sao Joao festivities is part and parcel of the culture of Goa and Goemkarpoon. He pointed out that festivities have been decentralized at five-six places in his constituency, while underlining the need to take Goemkarponn forward by taking Sao Joao forward.

Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao with supporters in tow descended at a number of places across Benaulim to join in the celebrations. Churchill appealed to the people to preserve the Goan festival, promising his support to maintain the great tradition.

What surprised many a political observer in Benaulim was the presence of GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar with Dixon Vaz at Pedda-Benaulim. While addressing the Sao Joao revelers, Girish complimented the people for preserving the culture, pointing out that though Monday did not see much rain, people came out spontaneously to celebrate the traditional festival.
