Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who attended the Governing Council meeting of the Niti Aayog in Delhi on Saturday, raised the issue of dropping output in the mining sector in Goa.

Sawant was also reportedly joined by chief ministers of some other states where mining is prevalent to report declining production. Niti Aayog’s Amitabh Kant, told the media at a press conference after the meeting, that Goa among some other States had raised the issue of mining output declining continuously.

Goa has faced grim economic repercussions of the complete standstill that its crucial mining sector has come to following the February 2018 ruling of the Supreme Court declaring most of its operating mining leases illegal.

Earlier on Friday, Sawant had also met Union Minister of State for Mines Prahlad Joshi to plead for the Centre’s intervention to restart mining. The chief minister had tweeted about his meeting with Joshi in New Delhi from his official Twitter handle.
