International Watercolour Society India (IWS India) in association with Watercolour Society of India (WSI) had announced the 1st Olympiart 2019 and invited entries from watercolour artists. The exhibition of selected artworks and contest winners’ artworks will be held at Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi in December 2019. The opening ceremony will be on December 8 at Sri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. An air trip to one of India’s best destinations Banaras, the holy place is also planned on December 12-15.

IWS, a non-profit organization was established in January 2012 with the objective of promoting the world’s oldest and most deeply rooted painting technique; the art of water colour. Founded by Atanur Dogan, the goal of IWS was to promote peace by the use of art; the common language of all the people of the world. There are 100 branches worldwide and the society is still growing.

“It has proven that art can bring people together despite differences in race, religion, culture and distance. We see a stronger bond forming between member countries and we see camaraderie as well between member artists. We will also focus on helping our IWS branches develop affordable strategies for promoting art and watercolor in their own countries,” says Dogan.

Endorsing Dogan’s words, Amit Kapoor, director IWS states, “Our aim is to encourage the artist all around the world to get connected and to promote and popularise water colour medium in every country.” This festival will be one of its kind including a grand opening ceremony, free demonstrations from national and international artists, an exhibition of paintings from artists all over the world including 800 exhibits, art talks, discussions, online contests, on the spot competitions of various mediums, portrait sessions, air outings, tours, art supply vendors, cultural activities and performances and big award ceremonies.

IWS activities involve bringing water colour artists and art-lovers together. With the headquarters in the ancient city of Teos, Turkey on the eastern shores of the Aegean Sea, the society works to bring the water colour art to the forefront by developing, promoting and popularising water colours and water media in every country.
