Sound is the basis of universe and our existence. Revolving around the concept of sound, 150 artists will be performing on stage in total sync with the time and theme, displaying their art forms depicting various folk musical instruments, different dance styles and tunes. In its second edition, ’18 June Collective’ is built around the theme of ‘revolutionary sounds of Goa’ whereas the theme last year was ‘liberating sounds of Goa’. As sound design is quite interesting methodology to study the folk and its variations, the event explores the folk culture in Goa.

Organised by Parikrama Knowledge Terminus, the event was well received last year which has boosted the morale of the artists involved in the 100 minute programme with only 10 minutes break. The concept of  the Collective came in the form of event on May 30, 2018. It was eventually named as 30 May Collective, as May 30 is the statehood day in Goa. Basically, Collective is the collaboration on various sounds of Goa. Its prime objective is exploring the feature of sound design in Goan folk music. Sound design has always remained untouched in the study of folk. Various groups across the Goa were contacted to craft a performance on the music of their place. It included the various folk forms including the commercial pieces of Tiatr music.

The idea was nurtured by the trio - Tushar Kamat, Sooraj Pinge and Divya Naik. A noted lyricist and sound recordist Tushar, ghumat teacher Sooraj and folk singer Divya - all have been part of several international tours with various artiste groups. Several performances were curated and most important aspect was recording folk tunes and recreating the sound with the genre of world music.

A Bharatnatyam practitioner and principal of Suranandan Bharati, Shruti Bhosale, has been a part of various Bharatnatyam performances. She has choreographed performances on the various tracks by Tushar. It is about taking folk on the platform of world music. The performance is an interaction of various dance forms. Tushar has recorded the tracks on field by visiting various places of Goa.

Known for his various experimental kantars, Malcom D’costa has been working on the Chaugo (quantro), the most neglected form of kantar. He has taken the concept further with the students of Goa Engineering College.

Folk singer Divya Naik who won a title of Voice of Goa, has performed opening sequence of Sur Jahan, world music festival in 2018. Collaborated with various artistes for live performances, Divya has also experimented with Dhalo, Morula and Shigmo. Divya will be performing on Vhoviyo, hymes sung by women during rituals of marriages in 18 June Collective.

The unplugged performances of Savoi-Verencho Sakhyahari, Yuva Jaitivant and Yuva De Shiroda are re-curated for 18 June Collective event. Savoi-Verencho Sakhyahari has performed the opening sequence in the Police Awards – Swabhiman and Yuva-De-Shiroda has performed in the TEDx edition of Panaji. Other notable artistes performing in groups include Sindhuraj Kamat, Raj Madgaonkar, Gayatri Patil, Suvidha Naik, Upendra Salgaonkar, Smith Naik, Chetan Naik, Gurudas Naik, Reshma Naik and others.

The edition of 18 June Collective will be dedicated to former deputy speaker of Goa Assembly and litterateur Vishnu Wagh. The previous Collective was dedicated to Shridhar Kamat.
