Shantadurga Cricketers to meet SK Jogging in semis

Shantadurga Cricketers-Karapur will meet SK Jogging-Canca in the first semi-finals of Indian Oil Prudent tennis ball cricket tournament, at SAG ground, Campal here on Friday morning. Shantadurga emerged Group C victors and booked a last-four berth after winning all their three games on Wednesday. SK Jogging were through on the opening day in Group A.   

The eight municipality-area teams will be in action in Group D on Thursday. The winner of the last group will meet Group B champions Morjai Warriors in the second semi-finals on the final day (May 31).   

Coming to the proceedings on Wednesday, Shantadurga Cricketers from Bicholim taluka dished out good cricket as they seemed methodical about their task, whether it was batting first or chasing the total. Their bowlers displayed good discipline and kept the rival bowlers under a leash. They were backed really well by the fielders, who displayed good outfield catching skills.   

In the quarter-final, Shantadurga Cricketers stunned Taleigao’s Siddhesh XI with a convincing six-wicket victory. Put into bat, a strong Siddhesh XI team were restricted to 47/6 in their allotted six overs. Tek Bahadur (13) and Nikhil Divjikar (10) were notable contrubutors for Siddhesh XI. Shantadurga’s Siddhesh Menkurkar and Suraj Sawant picked up two wickets each.   

Shantadurga chased down the target in 4.5 overs losing four wickets with in-form all-rounder Harshad Mathondkar coming up with an unbeaten knock of nine-ball 24 runs to take his team over the line with great ease. Harshad was the key player for Shantadurga as his efforts earned him man of the match prizes in all their games and in the process the team from Karapur-panchayat area, moved into the semi-finals of the Rs 1 lakh winners-purse tournament.

Ganapati Warriors-Dharbandora beat Honda Cricketers by 30 runs; Ganapati 69/4 (Sahil Gaonkar 58 off 26 balls), Honda Cricketers 39/7. Man-of-the match: Sahil (Ganapati Warriors).   

Siddhesh XI beat Sai Ganesh-Dhargal by 27 runs; Siddhesh XI 64/7 (Amit Khandeparkar 26; Mayur Gadekar 3 wickets, Sitaram Mayekar 3 wickets), Sai Ganesh 37/8 (Nikhil Divjikar 2 wickets). Man of the match: Nikhil (Siddhesh XI).   

Siddhesh XI beat Ganapati Warriors-Dharbandora by 43 runs; Siddhesh XI 64/6 (Tek Bahadur 23; Naresh Velip 3 wickets), Ganapati Warriors 21/8 (Mukhtar Kadri 4 wickets including a hat-trick). Man of the match: Mukhtar (Siddhesh XI).   

Shantadurga Cricketers-Karapur beat SK Warriors by 25 runs; Shantadurga 54/8 (Harshad Mathondkar 25), SK Warriors 29/5. Man of the match: Harshad (Shantadurga).   

Mandrem Boys beat Navelim Cricketers by 9 wickets; Navelim 36/7 (Vinod Morudkar 2 wickets), Mandrem 37/1 in 2.4 overs (Rajesh Gawde 27 not out). Man of the match: Rajesh (Mandrem).   

Shantadurga Cricketers-Karapur beat Mandrem Boys by 20 runs; Shantadurga 67/7 (Sachin Govekar 23, Kapil Menkurkar 20), Mandrem 47/6 (Harshad Mathondkar 3 wickets). Man of the match: Harshad (Shantadurga).
