DULER

Candolim Sports Club proved to too good for Cortalim Villagers as they won 11-1 in the GFA Second Division State play-off match at Duler stadium here on Wednesday. Saprem Diukar of Candolim did most of the damage to their rivals as he scored five goals.

It was Candolim boys who surged ahead in the 8th minute when referee Sunil Nanodkar awarded them a penalty after Saprem Diukar set up Blake Haldankar inside the penalty box and the last-named dribbled past a defender and was about to pull the trigger when foul-tackled by Cortalim’s Auston Silva. Pundalik Naik stepped forward and scored from the spot.  Cortalim equalised from a 30-yard strike by Austin Silva in the 23rd minute.

Candolim could have inflated their lead in the 26th mintue when a floater by Michael Dias saw the Cortalim defence beaten and the ball rolled to Saprem, who had all the time in the world to score but shot over the crossbar. Just two minutes into the second half and Candolim should have netted their second goal but Saprem’s strike hit the rival defender and went out.

However, Candolim then pumped in two quick goals - one each through Saprem Diukar(56th min) off Dwayne’s free-kick and then from Michael Dias (61st minute) to make it 3-1. After couple of missed chances, Saprem Diukar netted his brace from close range, 4-1.

In the 84th minute, a cross by Nehal Naik was guided into the goal by Saprem, who completed his hat-trick to make it 5-1. Just two minutes later, Blake Haldankar hammered in the sixth goal. In the closing stages, Saprem pumped in two more goals with Aniket Naik and Nehal Naik (2) also adding their names to the scorers’ list to make it 11-1.
