Ambelim Sports Club were crowned champions after they beat Guirdolim Club 4-3 via tiebreaker to win the 23rd Holy Cross Cup inter village football tournament, organised in memory of late
Albert J Fernandes at Vodlemol, Kakoda.
The teams were unable to break the deadlock in regulation time. In the penalty shootout, Leslie, Samson, Cletus and Premson were on target for Ambelim, while Joaquim, Mario and Myron found the mark
for Guirdolim.
Ambelim Sports Club were richer by Rs 1,11,111 while Guirdolim Club had to settle for a prize of Rs
77, 777.
Balkrishna Hordarkar, councillor of Curchorem Municipal Council was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of FC Goa footballer Seriton Fernandes, Jhoncy Fernandes, president of Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem, Shrikant Gaonkar, Shaikh Ali and Kishen Sawant.
