Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim and Goa Police Sports Club settled for a goalless draw in the GFA-Geno First Division League at Raia panchayat ground on Wednesday.

Goa Police goalkeeper Niklesh Naik with an outstanding performance, hogged the limelight and saved the cops from the jaws of defeat. He was later adjudged man-of-the

match.

The first half witnessed a keen tussle for supremacy as both teams tried to gain the accendancy by creating chances. However, the strikers from either side were unable to capitalise on the opportunities that came their way and the match ended in a goalless stalemate.

Goa Police had a chance to break the deadlock in the early moments of the game when Sewin Fernandes squandered an easy chance with only rival goalkeeper to beat shooting wide much to the dismay of the cops

bench.

Santa Cruz took some time to settle down and once they struck the rhythm, they called the shots against the rival citadel. Denson Fernandes,

who had a good outing, came close to taking his team ahead when he unleashed a stiff shot which was taken care of, by the goalkeeper Niklesh

Naik.

Crossing over, both the teams showed an urgency and as a result there were many thrills at either end. Denson Fernandes’ snap-shot was well-blocked by goalkeeper Niklesh Naik as Santa Cruz players found him a hard nut to crack, wherein he brought up three superlative saves to deny Denson in particular. With time running out, Goa Police tried hard with their forwards failing to convert in one to one situation and Diptesh Naik’s snap-shot was well-blocked by the rival goalkeeper. With this draw, the Cavelossim boys missed a chance to close the gap at the top, leaving them with 22 points from 10 games while Goa Police stay on nine points from nine outings.
