Dempo Sports Club came from behind to score two second half goals to earn a hard fought 2-2 draw against Salgaocar Football Club in a Goa Football Association Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.

The draw comes as blow for the Golden Eagles, who now have to win both  their remaining league matches to win the crown as they are on level  with points with Goan FC with 48 points.

Dempo SC are left to play against Churchill Brothers SC and Goan FC while Goan FC have three games remaining as they yet to play league big guns Salgaocar FC, Sporting Clube and Dempo SC.

The draw leaves Salgaocar FC on 45 points from 20 games. Salgaocar FC went all out from the word go and took the lead in the 8th minute through Denzil Rebello. The Greens doubled their lead in the 36th minute through youngster Ribhav Sardessai.

Good counter attacks from Salgaocar made it difficult for Dempo SC in the first 45 minutes. However, the Golden Eagles came back stronger in the second half as Joaquim Abranches pulled a goal back at the hour mark before Jessel’s cross hit Salgaocar’s Jason D’Mello and went into the goal. Abranches had the chance to seal the game in the dying minutes of the game but his header was off target.
