A taped phone conversation has come to haunt Health Minister Vishwajit Rane again.

Rane has alleged that prominent businessmen in Goa have been getting extortion calls from an unknown person who is impersonating him. He has written to the Director General of Police Pranab Nanda to investigate the matter.

Rane in his letter to Nanda has claimed that he has a recording of a call where the person has called in his name and was attempting to extort money. He has also mentioned the phone number from which the extortion calls were made in his letter to

the DGP.

“I would like you to forward this letter for investigation and find out whose number it is as this person is playing a lot of mischief and creating confusion and also asking people for money by misusing my name,” Rane further added in his letter to the DGP. Nanda has asked the North Goa SP to probe the matter, sources said.

Rane it may be recalled was caught in the eye of a major controversy after a taped phone conversation between him and an unidentified journalist surfaced in which he is heard claiming that the late Manohar Parrikar had said at a cabinet meeting that he holds crucial Rafale files in his bedroom.
