Goa Velha Sports Club managed to hold AA de Moira to a goalless draw in the GFA-Geno First Division League at Duler stadium here on Wednesday.

The Moira outfit after their marvelous display in the last league match where they stunned Salgaocar Juniors by a solitary goal, time and again attacked the rival citadel but a goal eluded them in the first session.

Moira came twice close to opening the account in the early part of the match as a long ball by Faheez Mahammad was controlled by Klusner Pereira, but he failed to beat Goa Velha goalkeeper Soma Korgaonkar from close.

Minutes later, another perfect cross by Tippanna Bhavikathi found Faheez inside the penalty box, but before he could strike a shot Goa Velha keeper Soma moved forward and fisted the ball to safety.

In the 28th minute, Goa Velha’s Akash Sanadi was well-positioned inside the penalty box, but saw his strike being brilliantly blocked by keeper Preston Rego. In the last ten minutes before the breather, Goa Velha keeper Soma came up with two out-of-the blue saves.

A curling corner by Klusner saw Faheez’s shot at the goal being blocked by keeper Soma, who once again thwarted Rudresh Tendulkar in a one-to-one situation after Faheez had done the spade work.

On crossing over in the 53rd minute of the match, the Moira boys were back in action when Siddesh Kesarkar sent in a through-pass to Joliston Rebello whose stiff grounder at the far post was superbly pushed for a corner with a diving save by Soma.

As the match progressed in the 62nd minute, a perfect low cross by Moira’s Klusner travelled to overlapping Llyod Mascarenhas, who fumbled while tapping the ball inside the unguarded goal. Moira went all out in search of the winning goal, but failed to get past the stubborn Goa Velha defence.

Moira’s Klusner Pereira received the man of the match award from Ravesh Narvekar, Vasco SC

manager.
