16 stalls go up in smoke at Mobor; loss at over ` 20-L

A major fire gutted around 16 stalls at Mobor-Cavelossim selling garments, jewelry and artefacts, destroying property worth over Rs 20 lakhs.

 The fire which broke out at around 2 pm in one of the stalls, located in the middle, soon spread to the other stalls. The fire-fighting operation was made difficult by the strong breeze and the availability of water, though the management of Hathi Mahal was quick to press its emergency response team into action.

 Two fire tenders from the Margao fire station and one from Curchorem were rushed to Mobor as the fire went out control. Sources said during the emergency, the locals tried to get water from a starred resort, but their emergency fire lines we dead and couldn’t replenish the tenders.

 Sarpanch Denis Dias said 

the Hathi Mahal general manager was quick to press his emergency response team into action who managed to stop the fire from one side with the use of their water hydrants.

 The stalls selling ready made garments, toys and imitation jewelry were all

 destroyed in the inferno. The stalls belonged to three persons Antonio Cardozo, Wilson Cardozo and Freddy Cardozo.  

 Fire brigade has put the total loss of property destroyed in the fire to Rs 20 lakh, while claiming that the fire men saved property worth Rs 50 lakh.

 Short circuit is suspected the cause behind the fire.
