In a major revision to the new Zuari bridge project, the new Zuari flyover will have two additional elevations between the Sharayu Toyota showroom and the Verna-Cansaulim junction, with underpasses and service roads for traffic to and from the Dabolim airport, Verna industrial estate and Pirni junction to facilitate traffic in the area.

According to a senior official, the decision comes after authorities realised that the NH17B, which is proposed from the Loutolim side to Verna, also intersects the present highway NH17A and this could lead to traffic chaos.

Besides this intersection, authorities also realised that thousands of people working at Verna Industrial estate also use the four-lane road between Verna junction and Dabolim Airport, which is already congested at the main junction circles.

“It was then decided that an underpass be planned so that traffic arriving from the proposed new Zuari Flyover at Sharayu Toyota showroom does not add to the traffic load already existing at various important traffic junctions of the existing highway,” said the official.

The official confirmed that revised plans of the additional elevations have already been put up, adding that there would also be a provision for service roads on either side of the elevations for access to both sides of the road.

“Definite plans have been made for two elevations on the proposed new Zuari Bridge flyover. The first elevation will begin from petrol pump near Sharayu Toyota showroom and end near the Hyundai showroom at Verna.”

“There will be an underpass for traffic between Verna junction and Dabolim Airport, while both entry points to the Verna Industrial estate will also be through this underpass,” the official said.

The official said the second elevation would begin after the petrol pump near Maharaja hotel and end near Verna-Cansaulim junction, adding there would be an underpass to facilitate traffic along Pirni-Nagoa junction.

The official also informed that both elevations would also have service roads, to enable vehicles exiting/entering the flyover and proceeding to and from the Dabolim Airport, Verna Industrial estate and Pirni junction.

“These two elevations will significantly reduce the travel time, while also decreasing the traffic load on existing junctions in the area.”
