Parrikar’s passing away is a great loss to Goa

The Archbishop of Goa and Daman is profoundly grieved at the passing away of Manohar Parrikar, the Head of the State of Goa, and offers his sincere condolences to his family members, legislators and the population of Goa in general and prays that the Almighty may grant him the eternal reward for all the good that he practised on earth. May his family members have the courage to bear the loss and face their grief with fortitude.

Parrikar’s passing away is a great loss to the people of Goa. As CM, he showed great acumen in the political administration of the State and was always considerate towards the developmental needs of the people of this land. Over the decades, he emerged as a leader of national importance, having served the nation as the Union Defence Minister through a difficult period of time. His contribution for the development of the State and of the Nation will be remembered for long years to come.

His sense of secularism and communal harmony and respect for the various religions, cultures and traditions of the people have been generally appreciated by the State, as was his judiciousness in settling issues and finding lasting solutions for the welfare of the masses. His far sight led him to plan for the near & distant future.

We acknowledge gratefully the respect and consideration he had for the Church authorities in this State. He would sometimes seek their opinion before coming out with far-reaching decisions for the benefit of the State. His appreciation for the contribution of the Catholic educational institutions in Goa was well-known. We are particularly grateful to him for going out of his way to help organize the last two expositions of the Sacred Relics of St. Francis Xavier in Old Goa and for creating a lasting infrastructure in that hallowed place. That, along with many other social infrastructure projects undertaken and completed during his tenure will remain as a lasting tribute to his remarkable administrative skills.

May the Almighty reward him generously and grant him everlasting peace.
