Karleen Elizabeth DeMelo topped the BA LLB course at the Vidya Vikas Mandal’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law in her fifth year of the law degree course, which concluded in the academic year 2018. What makes Karleen’s achievement outstanding is that she is 100% visually impaired from the time she is three years old.

The college recently felicitated the topper with the Ramcrishna M Salgaonkar scholarship for achieving the first rank with first class at the fifth year BA LLB examination, and the Umakant Nilkanth Shenvi Kakodkar Scholarship for achieving the highest marks at the fifth year BA LLB examination.

Karleen answered her law exams with the help of a writer. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Law. President of the Disability Rights Association of Goa Avelino De Sa while congratulating Karleen on social media on Thursday, said that Karleen was the first person in Goa with 100% visual impairment to have successfully completed a law degree.
