With the announcement of dates for parliamentary elections and coming  in force of model code of conduct, the Directorate of Income Tax  Department has put in place a solid mechanism for election expenditure  monitoring.   

Special teams have been constituted for both parliamentary  constituencies. Each team being headed by the Deputy Director, along  with other officers and officials. The teams shall be acting on self  generated intelligence, information/complaints received from Public at  large, cases of interception of cash by police, flying squads and static  surveillance teams.   

The department will also be scrutinising suspicious cash  deposits and withdrawals from banks, real time verification of  affidavits and declarations made by the candidates. As per the new  guidelines of the ECI, candidates have to file their Returns of Income,  

along with those of spouse and dependent’s for last 5 years, along with  the Assets and liabilities statements of overseas investments.   

Income tax Departments has also started various  communication modes where public at large can share information  regarding, generation, hoarding, transport and distribution of cash.
