The gram sabha of Nerul panchayat on Sunday unanimously resolved to oppose the CRZ notification of the central government to reduce the no developement zone to 50 meters from the high tide line against the earlier 200 meters.

Sarpanch Piedade Almeida welcomed the villagers and later the panchayat secretary Govind Kamat read out the minutes of the gramsabha held on November 25, 2018.

The villagers sought to know from the panchayat whether it accorded permission for the hill-cutting at Fattowado. Almeida replied that the panchayat had not given permission to anybody for hill-cutting.

She said the flying squad and taltahi from the Mamladar office had visited the site but have not submitted any report on the same to the panchayat. “The panchayat has issued construction license based on the directions of the Town and Country Planning department,” she informed.

Speaking on the garbage issue, Almeida mentioned that the panchayat had started door-to-door waste collection and appealed to the villagers to collect bins from panchayat office on payment of garbage tax.

Deputy Sarpanch Prakash Hoble mentioned that the panchayat has decided to levy a fine of Rs.5000 if any person was found dumping garbage by the side of the road. Also, he informed, a cash prize of Rs 1000 will be given to a person who catches anyone dumping garbage and hands him over to the panchayat.

The sarpanch Almeida informed that Nerul village had been selected for development under National Rurban Mission of the central government . The panchayat secretary presented the budget estimates of Nerul panchayat for the financial year 2019-20.

Issues pertaining to hot-mixing of roads, beautification of lake, installation of ATM machine on Coco beach and gate for Nerul crematorium were also discussed in the gram sabha.
