'What is the point of a world-class bridge when people have no livelihood?'

Coming out heavily on the BJP government in Goa, NCP state president and former minister Jose Philip D’Souza on Monday evening said that the BJP had failed miserably to address the issues of the mining dependents in the state.
D’Souza was addressing a large number of women who had gathered at Tourist Hall in Vasco on the occasion of Haldi Kumkum organised by the Women's Wing of the NCP.
While appealing the people to vote against the BJP in the upcoming elections, D'Souza said, "Every BJP legislator is talking about the Atal Setu. What is the point of having a world class bridge when people of the state are deprived of their livelihood? Should these people and mining dependents pose for a selfie on the bridge and post pictures on social media? It is important for a government to take care of its people and ensure that they have some source of income."
"Every now and then, the BJP has made fake promises to the mining dependents. A few days from now, we may have a code of conduct for the LS elections and then nothing can be done. The mining dependents have tried everything from a dharna in Delhi to meeting the top bosses of BJP like Amit Shah and PM Narendra Modi. What is the outcome? Some one who wants to do something does it not says things like 'Main Dektha Hoon'. Even today, a BJP MP has assured that things will fall in place. Why can't the BJP come out clear on the issue instead of fooling the people," D’Souza asked.
While around 700 women were present for the meeting, around 2000 participated in the Haldi Kumkum ceremony where every woman exchanged haldi and kumkum as a symbol of their married status.
Mormugao Municipal Council councillor Pascoal D’Souza and former MMC councillor Nenny D’Souza were also present at the ceremony along with other members of NCP Women's Wing.
